Three California Federal Judicial Nominees to Receive Committee Vote This Week

The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote on more of President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.’s judicial nominees on Thursday, with three aspiring jurists in California on the agenda.

The candidacies of Michelle W. Court, Anne Hwang, and Cynthia V. Dixon will be considered along with those for federal district court seats in Maine and New York.

Court has been a state court judge since 2012. She is currently the supervising civil division judge for the California Superior Court in Los Angeles County. Before becoming a judge, Court was general counsel at Bet Tzedek Legal Services, an associate at Milberg LLP and Litt & Marquez, and on the staff at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Hwang is also a state superior court judge in Los Angeles. A judge since 2018, she is a former deputy federal public defender and also was an associate at Irell & Manella LLP.

Dixon is a judge of the State Bar Court of California. She began her legal career at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and then worked in the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice and for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

All three of the California nominees would, if confirmed, sit on the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

The committee held a hearing May 22 on the nominations of Court, Hwang, and Dixon.
